Research Guidelines for Group Project

In order to build your understanding of the religious tradition you'll be visiting with and experiencing this semester, you'll need to know:

  1. the history of the religion: where, when, why, and by whom did it start, and how has it evolved over time?
  2. "public perception" of the religion: how is it discussed in the media, and what misconceptions or stereotypes may be associated with it? (or, alternatively, if it seems to be viewed only positively, why might that be?)
  3. what kinds of topics associated with the religion have scholars explored in the past, and/or what ideas do they seem to be studying today?

To build your group's knowledge in each of these areas, you'll each (as individuals) need to find at least one of each of the following about "your group's" religion:

  1. a reference article (from an online or print encyclopedia that isn't Wikipedia)
  2. a piece of journalism (that is well-researched and published via a credible media outlet)
  3. a peer-reviewed journal article

Refer to the drop-down options at the left for library resources to guide you to each of these kinds of sources.
