Helpful Web Resources

The websites below are commonly cited on library guides (those cited here and others) as high-quality, reliable options for finding government data.

Note that none of these sites is comprehensive, and that content is updated daily. No single website or resource has (yet) emerged as a "one-stop shop" for purged or difficult-to-access information.

Alternative Sources of Health Data
The Journalist's Resource from the Harvard Kennedy School has curated a list of non-government websites that have health data, although some use government data to create their reports.
DataLumos
DataLumos is an ICPSR archive for valuable government data resources. ICPSR has a long commitment to safekeeping and disseminating US government and other social science data.

ICPSR is an international consortium of more than 800 academic institutions and research organizations. We provide leadership and training in data access, curation, and methods of analysis for the social science research community. ICPSR maintains a data archive of more than 1,000,000 files of research in the social sciences, including specialized collections of data in education, aging, criminal justice, substance abuse, terrorism, and other fields.
The Data Rescue Tracker
The Data Rescue Tracker is a collaborative tool built to catalog existing public data rescue efforts so that we can coordinate better across initiatives. At this stage, you can use the tool to help reduce duplication of rescue efforts. The Data Rescue Tracker aims to provide a consolidated overview of who is downloading which dataset from which government websites.
End of Term Web Archive
The End of Term Web Archive contains federal government websites (.gov, .mil, etc) in the Legislative, Executive, or Judicial branches of the government. Websites that were at risk of changing (i.e., whitehouse.gov) or disappearing altogether during government transitions were captured. Local government websites, or any other site not part of the federal government domain were out of scope.
FindLostData
From the Boston University School of Public Health's Center for Health Data Science, this site "provides an easy way to search for datasets across various sites. [They] emphasize ease of use to enable equitable access to these essential data."

Data are gathered from federal, state, and local agencies.
Public Data (UCSB)
Git for University of California Santa Barbara that has data from NASA, Social Security Administration, NOAA, CDC, NIH and Department of Education data.
