During the 2020-21 academic year, Augustana librarians Maria Emerson and Lauryn Lehman conducted an audit of more than 6500 print resources in the library to ascertain the gender, sexuality, and race or ethnicity of the authors represented in the collection. This audit focused on items by a single author published in 2000 or after.
In the intervening years, tracking has become a standardized part of how we build our collection. This information is included as a part of our internal purchase order and is tracked for annual statistics as we seek to build a more inclusive collection. Tredway librarians believe that it is important to acquire materials that are reflective of scholarship from authors of all genders, sexualities, races, and ethnicities.
