Latin American Studies Resources

An important source of American diplomatic reporting on political, military, social, and economic developments throughout the world in the 20th century focusing on Europe and Latin America.

During World War II and the first decade and a half of the Cold War, the Office of Strategic Services and the State Department assigned leading scholars to write special, classified reports about Asia, Europe, the Soviet Union, Latin America, and Africa. At the time, the reports helped to shape U.S. foreign policy decisions, and, now, the over 3,500 reports in this module provide an excellent source for studying the major areas of the World during the period from 1941 to 1961.

BDMx is a collaboration of four Mexican cultural institutions, el Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, el Archivo General de la Nación, La Biblioteca Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) y el Centro de Estudios de Historia de México CEHM- Carso, that collects " relevant historical and cultural documents from their holdings, and they would invite the numerous Mexican libraries and archives, and foreign repositories that have important Mexican documentation to join this effort."

BNDM "in line with the mission that the National Library has fulfilled since 1867 and which consists of collecting, preserving, disseminating and safeguarding the bibliographic memory of Mexico, now makes part of its collections available to the world , archival and documentary funds, which give a true account of the wealth of our country's cultural heritage and whose digitization process will increase."

"dLOC is a cooperative of Partners within the Caribbean and circum-Caribbean that provides users with access to Caribbean cultural, historical and research materials held in archives, libraries, and private collections. dLOC comprises collections that speak to the similarities and differences in histories, cultures, languages and governmental systems. Types of collections include but are not limited to: newspapers, archives of Caribbean leaders and governments, official documents, documentation and numeric data for ecosystems, scientific scholarship, historic and contemporary maps, oral and popular histories, travel accounts, literature and poetry, musical expressions, and artifacts."

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's ICAA aims to "collect, exhibit, research, and educate audiences about the diverse artistic production of Latin American and Latinx communities, including artists from Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and artists of Latin American descent living and working in the United States. By establishing the center, the museum sought to bring about a long-term transformation in the appreciation and understanding of Latin American and Latinx visual arts in the United States and abroad." "The Onda Latina Collection consists of 226 digitally preserved audio programs including interviews, music, and informational programs related to the Mexican American community and their concerns from the radio series 'The Mexican American Experience' and 'A esta hora conversamos' the Longhorn Radio Network, 1976-1982."

Recovery "is an international program to locate, preserve and disseminate Hispanic culture of the United States in its written form since colonial times until 1960. The program has compiled a comprehensive bibliography of books, pamphlets, manuscripts and ephemera produced by Latinos. The holdings available at the project include thousands of original books, manuscripts, archival items and ephemera, a microfilm collection of approximately 1,400 historical newspapers, hundreds of thousands of microfilmed and digitized items, a vast collection of photographs, an extensive authority list, and personal papers. In addition, the program has published or reprinted more than 40 historical books, two anthologies, and nine volumes of research articles."
