Any format of creative project – including but not limited to visual artwork, videos, web creations, zines, and letters to the editor – may be considered within this category; submissions are not limited to only text-based work. Due to the variable nature of this category, students will be asked to provide an artist’s statement as part of their application:
For projects that involve significant text, whether written or spoken, the artist’s statement should 1) identify the intended message, purpose, or argument; 2) demonstrate how the source materials and research are integrated throughout the work; and 3) speak to how the creative medium supports and enhances your message or argument.
For projects that involve minimal or no text, the artist’s statement should 1) highlight the intended message or purpose; 2) address how research and source materials informed the creation process and/or are expressed in the work; and 3) speak to how the creative medium supports and enhances your message or purpose.
