Looking to do research in the library? OneSearch is a very powerful, single-search discovery tool that allows you to research your topic or search for a single known item with equal ease.
If you are looking for general information, you can start from the library’s homepage, entering your basic search term in the search box. The results will open within OneSearch itself. But if you have multiple terms you wish to use, or if you know a fair amount of specific information (perhaps from a citation), you can click on “Advanced Search” to take you directly to OneSearch.
Either of these avenues will take you to results. But what should you do from there?
| Everything | This will search all Augustana-owned physical items and some electronic items (ebooks, Augustana electronic-based publications) plus articles from databases plus all physical items owned by other I-Share libraries. |
| Local only | This will search all Augustana-owned physical items and some electronic items (ebooks, Augustana electronic-based publications). Formerly referred to as "ALiCat, or the Augustana Library Catalog" -- if you see this, it is referring to our local collections. |
| All I-Share libraries | This searches the catalogs of all libraries within the I-Share consortium. Most items that are accessible to Augustana students, faculty, and staff are physical items. However, there are some ebooks and ebook collections that are owned by CARLI (the Consortium of Academic Research Libraries in Illinois), and as such, are available to patrons from any of the I-Share libraries. (Ebooks are not available to public patrons.) Restrictions on ebooks and other electronic or streaming materials tend to be due to restrictions from the publishers from whom libraries purchase access. |
| Articles only | This will search the databases to which Augustana subscribes for primary- and secondary-source articles. |
| Tredway Library Resources | This will search all Augustana-owned physical items and some electronic items (ebooks, Augustana electronic-based publications) plus articles from databases |
| Special Collections | This will search ALiCat for items located within Augustana's Special Collections department. Special Collections consists of the college archives, rare book collection, and local history materials. |
| Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center | This will search ALiCat for items located within Augustana's Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center (SSIRC). SSIRC holds materials relating to Swedish immigration and Swedish-American history, including substantial genealogical resources. |
