The Rock Island Tuberculosis Sanitarium was referred by several names and abbreviations, including but not limited to the following:
Start with: Rock Island Preservation Society Postcard and American Association for Respiratory Care Virtual Museum: Pulmonary Tuberculosis exhibit [see slide 31]
Please note: the postcard page says the dates of the sanitarium were 1931-1974 for the most recent building and 1917-31 for the original building. Other primary sources listed below suggest an earlier facility had a similar name (c. 1893) and operated off of city taxes; it may have been the same institution.
The Tri-City Sanitarium was occasionally referenced as the Moline Sanitarium or the Tri-City Sanitarium Food Co.; however, the Western Illinois Hospital for the Insane was also occasionally called the East Moline Sanitarium, so review sources carefully.
Start with: Encyclopedia of Seventh-Day Adventists: Tri-City Sanitarium (1900-1923); also mentioned in video from the Adventist News Network.
The Western Illinois Hospital for the Insane operated under many different names from c.1898 to 1980 (when it was converted into the current-day Moline Correctional Center), including but not limited to the following:
Start with: East Moline History (City Website), Retro Quad Cities 5/8/2015 Facebook Post, and IL Genealogy Illinois Western Hospital For the Insane, Watertown, Illinois page
Please note: many archival records of the hospital are stored in the Illinois State Archives in Springfield, IL.
The Forest Park Sanitarium (1923-c.1960) was referred by several names, including but not limited to the following:
Start with: Internet Archive: Chiropractic and Mental Health by Brian A. Smith & Retro Quad Cities 1/19/2024 post
Please note: some primary sources seem to conflate the Forest Park Sanitarium (Chiropractic Psychopathic Sanitarium) and Clear View Sanitarium (Chiropractic Mental Hospital). Be cautious when reviewing sources.
The Clear View Sanitarium (~1926-1961), including but not limited to the following:
Start with: Pioneering Mental Health: Institutional Psychiatric Care in Chiropractic, Jenkins Family Chiropractic's Clearview Sanitarium page, and Davenport Iowa History "Clear View" Chiropractic Sanitarium post (12/31/2024)
Please note: Clear View was a fairly common name for sanitariums and hospitals, so review sources carefully. Additionally, some primary sources seem to conflate the Forest Park Sanitarium (Chiropractic Psychopathic Sanitarium) and Clear View Sanitarium (Chiropractic Mental Hospital). Be cautious when reviewing sources.
