"Forward searching" refers to searching for more recent sources that cite a source you have found. You can do this in different library databases as well as Google Scholar. When you have a highly relevant article, try forward searching it in different places, because you may find different citing sources in each.
- Web of Science: click on the number of citations to the right of the article title in the result list or the article record
- PubMed: in the article record, scroll down and click on "Cited By" in the right-hand menu
- Google Scholar: in the result list, click "Cited by" under the article description
- OneSearch: in the article record, scroll down to the "Citations" heading and click "Find sources citing this." You can also click the little arrow next to the article's title in the result list. Note: not every record in OneSearch has this feature.
