Welcome!

Welcome to the first entry of the Tredway Library's newsletter, Book it to the Tredway Library! This newsletter is intended for Augustana students, faculty, and staff, and will highlight our different library services, upcoming events, and other important information.

Changes in the library due to COVID

COVID has changed several of our procedures and options at the library this year. To ensure the safety of our campus community and to follow typical library protocols, the following temporary changes have been made for the fall semester:

  • Masks or a facial covering must be worn in the library at all times.
  • Food and drinks are no longer allowed in the library. This ensures that masks can stay on at all times.
  • Library hours have been temporarily shortened. You can see the new library hours here.
  • Study rooms are not currently available. Studying in the library is still allowed in the open spaces, as long as you wear a mask and practice physical distancing.
  • In order to keep with standard library COVID-19 practices, all physical items that are touched have to be quarantined for 7 days, with the exception of items which may be easily disinfected using wipes (i.e. computers, staplers, scissors, etc.)

  • Due to quarantining of items, physical reserves are not allowed this year.

  • Special Collections is open by appointment only. Please email specialcollections@augustana.edu to set up a time.

October's book display will feature Asian-American authors! You can view this upcoming book display on the main floor of the library as you enter from the lobby doors. if you're interested in learning more about a particular book, scan the QR code provided to locate the item record.

This year the library also has a virtual book display that shows current and past book displays, with additional suggestions for further readings (including ebooks). A special thanks to Dr. Liza Lawrence (History Department) and Dr. Umme Al-Wazedi (English Department) for their collaboration with the library!

Laundromat Library League

Do you have any children or young adult books at home that are gathering dust? Consider donating them to the Tredway Library's Laundromat Library League, located at the Rock Island Neighborhood Laundromat. Last year over 250 books were donated by the Augustana community! Drop any books to the box outside of María Emerson's office in the Tredway Library (Tredway 226). In keeping with standard library practices during COVID-19, donated books will be placed in quarantine for 7 days in order for them to be safely delivered and available at the laundromat.

Questions? Email or call María (mariaemerson@augustana.edu, x7823).

Rock Island Public Library bookmobile is visiting Augustana College!

Every other Friday, the RIPL bookmobile will be coming to campus from 9:30am-11am, and can be located in the parking lot directly outside the CSL. Since entry isn't allowed on the bookmobile due to COVID, you will need to request your books ahead of time using your Rock Island Public Library card. Read here for more information.

Future bookmobile days:

  • October 23
  • November 6
