Library Services for Visitors

Library Card

While the Tredway Library is not part of the local public library system, we do allow people from the local surrounding area to use our materials. Local patrons are allowed to have up to 10 items checked out at a time. The following items are required for public patrons to apply for a library card to check out Augustana materials:

  • Current picture ID, e.g., driver's license
  • Verification of address, e.g., recent letter or bill
  • Unexpired library card from one of the following counties: Rock Island, Whiteside, or Henry (Illinois), or a high school photo ID, or be a member of the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center
  • Photo ID will be required each time a public patron wishes to check out.

NOTE: Applicants must be at least 13 years of age. These cards are for personal use only. Each member of a family who wishes to check out should apply for their own card. For more information, contact Christine Aden, Head of Circulation, at 309-794-7819.

Computer Usage

Library computers are to be used primarily for academic research by Augustana students, faculty, and staff.

Alumni and visitors may use library computers on the second floor of the library for academic research. Visitors must sign in at the Circulation Desk to be logged onto a computer (valid photo identification may be required). The guest log-in does not have access to Microsoft Office programs.

Public patron computer access will be limited to one hour each day. Patrons will see periodic warnings as the hour of access comes to a close, and will be logged off automatically. Log-ins will be prohibited after 9:00 p.m. Sunday-Thursday.

Alumni and visitors will be charged $0.25/page for printing. Printed pages may be picked up at the Circulation Desk, at which time payment will be requested.

In order to prioritize access to library resources for our students, faculty, and staff, non-Augustana patrons may be limited in their access or refused access during times of heavy use. Such occasions may include, but are not limited to, class visits to the library for research instruction, the 14th week of each semester, and final exam periods.

Viewing pornography on these computers violates Augustana's policy on sexual harassment by creating a hostile environment. Patrons using the computers for this purpose will be asked to leave the library immediately.
